Want More Coverage Without Feeling Covered Up? Meet Our Polka Dot Halter Tankini

Want a little more coverage than a bikini — but still want your swimsuit to feel cute, open and summery? ☀️

That little in-between space is exactly why we love a tankini.

At imClaire, we designed our Polka Dot Halter Tankini Top for days when a tiny bikini feels like a little too much exposure, but a fully covered swimsuit isn’t quite the mood either.

It gives you more coverage through the waist and sides while keeping the shoulders, back and neckline open. Add soft side ruching, an adjustable halter tie and removable pads, and you get a swim top that feels flattering without feeling overly structured.

And yes — we absolutely wear it outside the pool too. 🤎

Why choose a tankini instead of a bikini?

A tankini gives you one of the best things about a two-piece swimsuit — the freedom to mix and match — while offering more coverage through the torso than a traditional bikini top.

Our Polka Dot Halter Tankini sits lower on the waist than a bikini, but it doesn't extend all the way down like a one-piece swimsuit.

That means you still see a little skin between the top and bottom, keeping the overall look fresh and youthful.

For us, that's the sweet spot:

a little more coverage, without feeling completely covered up.

It can be especially nice if you want to feel more comfortable around the waist or sides without giving up the open neckline and feminine look of a halter swimsuit.

Soft side ruching gives the waist a little more ease

Look closely at the sides of the top and you'll notice one of the most important details: soft ruching along both sides of the waist.

Instead of pulling completely flat and tight across the stomach, the fabric forms gentle folds around the midsection.

The ruching adds texture, softly skims the waist and gives a little extra visual coverage around the sides.

And there’s an important distinction here:

This is not heavy tummy-control swimwear.

There isn't a stiff compression panel designed to squeeze or reshape your body. The effect comes from the softly gathered fabric itself, so the top still feels light and easy to wear.

If you like the look of a ruched tankini top but don’t necessarily want strong shapewear or compression, this is the kind of detail to look for.

The halter neckline keeps it open and summery

More coverage through the waist doesn't mean we wanted to cover everything else.

The deep halter neckline keeps the shoulders and upper back open, creating a long V shape through the front.

The result feels more like a cute summer halter top than a traditional full-coverage swimsuit.

The neck is finished with wide straps that tie behind the neck, rather than a fixed strap length.

That lets you adjust the position and tension depending on your proportions and how you prefer the neckline to sit.

A little higher one day, a little more relaxed the next — you have some room to make the fit your own.

Removable pads let you customize the bust

Inside the bust are removable bra pads.

You can:

  • wear the included pads

  • remove them completely

  • replace them with your preferred pads

  • add different padding depending on the shape or volume you prefer

Swimwear can fit very differently from person to person, especially through the bust, so we like giving you the option instead of permanently fixing one type of padding inside.

A closer look at the fabric and finishing 🔎

The Polka Dot Halter Tankini is made in a smooth, stretchy swim fabric with a sleek surface and soft sheen.

It sits close to the body while the ruching creates softness through the waist.

If you look at the detail shots, you can also see how the side gathering is constructed into the seam rather than simply printed or styled for the photos. The folds continue naturally through the waist when the top is worn.

Inside, there's another small imClaire detail:

imClaire
VACAY MODE
WHERE EVERY DAY FEELS LIKE A VACATION

The branding is printed directly inside the swimsuit rather than added as a large exterior label.

It's a small detail, but it sums up the way we think about swimwear.

We don't think your favorite swim pieces should only come out for one vacation a year.

Beach day, hotel pool, picnic, resort, lunch by the water — wherever your own little vacay mode happens. 🌴

Three polka dot colors, three completely different moods

The Polka Dot Halter Tankini comes in Black, Brown and Ivory.

Same silhouette, very different feeling.

Black Polka Dot

The easiest one to style.

A black base with small light polka dots gives the top a slightly retro feeling while still staying simple enough to wear again and again.

Pair it with solid black swim bottoms for a clean look, or mix it with another print when you want something more playful.

Black is also great if most of the swimwear already in your closet is neutral.

Brown with Pink-Toned Polka Dots 🤎

Our Brown color is not just a standard brown-and-white polka dot.

The base is a deep chocolate brown, while the dots have a soft pink-toned color that gives the print a warmer, slightly unexpected feel.

It's subtle from a distance, but up close it gives the brown much more personality.

We love it with chocolate swim shorts or boyshorts for a tonal look.

It's also surprisingly fun with a completely different brown-based print.

Ivory with Brown Polka Dots

The lightest and most resort-like option.

The warm Ivory base is finished with small brown polka dots, giving it a softer vintage feeling than the Black version.

Against a beach setting, the Ivory looks especially fresh and summery without feeling stark white.

Try it with chocolate brown bottoms, a brown swim skirt or another warm-toned print.

Do your swim top and bottom actually need to match?

Not at imClaire. 👀

One of our favorite ways to wear this tankini is with a completely different bottom.

You can see it in our own styling and real customer photos.

Pair the Brown Polka Dot Tankini with solid chocolate boyshorts for a sporty, minimal look.

Or wear the same top with a brown swim skirt covered in larger contrasting dots. The brown base ties everything together while the different scale of the prints keeps the outfit interesting.

The Black Polka Dot Tankini works easily with simple black swim bottoms, black shorts or a beach skirt.

And the Ivory Tankini looks especially cute against chocolate brown or other warm-toned imClaire bottoms.

Same top.

Different bottom.

Completely different mood. ✨

That freedom is also one of the reasons we like two-piece swimwear: you can change the amount of coverage depending on where you're going and how you feel that day.

Can you wear a tankini as a regular top?

We do.

Because this tankini extends farther down the torso than a bikini top, it can easily work as a halter beach top outside the water.

After swimming, try styling it with:

  • relaxed shorts

  • linen or lightweight pants

  • a beach skirt

  • simple boyshorts

  • an imClaire swim skirt

  • other imClaire swim pants

Add sandals, sunglasses and a bag, and you can go from the beach or pool straight to a café or casual lunch without feeling like you're walking around in only a bikini.

That's a big part of the idea behind imClaire:

swimwear that can live beyond the water.

What does it look like on real customers?

We think real-life fit matters just as much as studio photos.

In our customer photos, you'll see the same Polka Dot Halter Tankini worn on different body proportions and styled in different ways.

On some customers, the top is worn slightly lower and longer through the waist.

On others, the ruching is gathered a little more, creating a slightly shorter silhouette.

The adjustable halter tie also changes how the neckline and bust sit depending on the wearer.

That's why we don't think there is one single "correct" way this top should look.

Your bust shape, torso length, preferred coverage and the bottom you pair it with will all change the final silhouette.

Several of the real customer photos shown here are from Asian customers, while our campaign imagery also shows the same design on different body proportions.

As a Korean swimwear brand, imClaire pays close attention to a request we hear often from customers in Korea and across Asia:

“I want a little more coverage, but I still want my swimsuit to look cute.”

That idea is at the heart of this top.

Size & Fit

The Polka Dot Halter Tankini is available in Sizes 1, 2 and 3.

Instead of relying only on a direct US numeric-size conversion, we recommend comparing the actual garment measurements with a swim top you already own.

Swim fabrics stretch, and bust shape and preferred fit can make a big difference.

Garment Measurements

imClaire Size Total Length Chest Width — Flat
1 16.9 in 11.4 in
2 17.3 in 12.2 in
3 17.7 in 13.0 in

Please note: Chest width is measured across the garment while laid flat and unstretched.

The actual fit will expand beyond the flat measurement because this is a stretch swim fabric.

The adjustable halter neck also gives you some flexibility through the upper body.

If you are between sizes, think about the fit you prefer:

Choose the smaller option if you generally like your swimwear closer and more secure.

Choose the larger option if you prefer a little more room through the bust and waist.

For petite or shorter-torso customers, comparing the total length with a swim top you already like is especially helpful.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are tankinis more covering than bikinis?

Usually, yes.

A tankini extends farther down the torso than a traditional bikini top, so it provides additional coverage around the stomach and waist while keeping the convenience of a two-piece swimsuit.

The imClaire Polka Dot Halter Tankini still leaves some skin visible between the top and bottom, so it doesn't feel as fully covered as a one-piece.

Is this a tummy-control tankini?

No.

This top does not use a heavy compression or tummy-control panel.

Instead, soft side ruching creates gentle folds through the waist, which adds texture and visual coverage without the restrictive feeling of shapewear.

Does it have removable pads?

Yes.

The bust includes removable pads, so you can wear the included padding, remove it or replace it with your preferred pads.

Is the halter neck adjustable?

Yes.

The wide halter straps tie behind the neck, allowing you to adjust the fit and neckline.

Can I wear it with a different swim bottom?

Absolutely — we encourage it.

Try it with solid swim shorts, boyshorts, a swim skirt or even a contrasting polka dot print.

The Brown version works especially well with chocolate-toned bottoms, Black is easy to pair with almost anything, and Ivory looks great with warm brown shades.

Can I wear it outside the pool?

Yes.

The longer silhouette makes it easy to style like a halter top with shorts, skirts or lightweight pants.

It's one of our favorite swim-to-beachwear pieces.

Is this a good option if I prefer Asian-fit swimwear?

imClaire is a Korean swimwear brand, and many of our designs are influenced by the fit and coverage preferences we hear from customers in Korea and other Asian markets.

Rather than assuming all Asian body types are the same, we focus on practical details — adjustable fits, flexible sizing and options that offer more coverage without feeling overly conservative.

For the most accurate fit, always compare your measurements with the individual product size chart.

Which color should I choose?

Choose Black if you want the easiest, most versatile option.

Choose Brown if you like warmer vintage colors and the subtle pink-toned polka dots.

Choose Ivory if you want something lighter, softer and especially suited to a bright resort or beach look.

Or don't choose just one. We won't judge. ☀️

More coverage. More ways to wear it. Still very much a swimsuit.

That's the Polka Dot Halter Tankini.
